September marks the transition from summer to fall and is a crucial month for homeowners. Here are some recommended routines to keep your home in top shape during this time:

1. Home Maintenance: Schedule a fall checkup with a heating and cooling specialist to ensure your system is running smoothly.

2. Inspect your roof for water intrusion and missing shingles. Check the integrity of the seals around chimneys and inspect the roof for worn seals around vent pipes.

3. Fireplace Care: To prepare for warm and cozy nights in front of the fireplace have a certified chimney sweep inspect your fireplace to remove creosote buildup and check connections and burners.

4. Siding Cleaning: Use a pressure washer to clean your siding and inspect for any serious problems.

5. Clean gutters and downspouts

6. Caulk windows and weatherstrip doors

7. Check foundation for any cracks

8. Repair any peeling paint

9. Seasonal Decor: Take advantage of the spectacular fall colours and swap summer linens for warm-toned throws or pillow covers.  Add seasonal decor to your space like a wreath or autumn toned flowers in a planter by the front door.

10. Nearing the end of September, drain any garden hoses and put them away for the winter months.  Also tend to any rain barrels, fountains or water features to ensure they are safely stored  away (according to any manufacturers specifications)
